The plans that you will follow, if you choose to, were not just thrown together. They are a collection of engineering decisions that reflect years of understanding the inkle weaving process along with progressive development. There was a lot that went into the plans for the World Famous Heritage Inkle Loom.
After you go through the FREE Inkle Loom plans you might want to change a few things that you feel are necessary to achieve the final inkle loom design you may require. But I am sure you will find that our FREE Inkle Loom plans offer more than any other set of inkle loom plans, FREE or otherwise. The Heritage Inkle Loom is a tested, and weaving community proven, to be the best inkle loom in function and design.
To construct the Heritage Inkle Loom it takes average woodworking skills along with woodworking tools found in the average woodshop. Remember it's quality, not speed, that is necessary to produce a quality woodworking project. Take you time and your Handmade Heritage Inkle Loom will be a treasured heirloom that will last for generations.
The Heritage Inkle Loom is of a Green Design. There is vertually no waste after all the parts are cut. Wood is renewable and the sawdust is reusable such as compost, oil dry, critter litter, wood filler, ect.
Supplies you will need:
You will not need to go to any specialty wood supplier. The Plans are for using dimensional lumber found in any home improvement store or lumber yard. The 1" dimension is actually 3/4". You can select another hardwood if you choose to do so. We recommend using Poplar.
1 - 1" X 10" X 24" Poplar Board
1 - 1" X 12" X 24" Poplar Board
Make sure you select boards that are flat and square. Any warp-age or twisting will no be acceptable. No blemishes or knots either. You are paying a premium price for premium wood so get what you pay for.
2 - 3/4" X 48" Poplar Dowel Rod
Any hard wood dowel rod would be just fine. Just make sure the dowel rod you select is straight as an arrow with no defects or knots.

8 - #10 - 1½" Sheet Metal Screws - Zinc (black)
8 - 3/16" I.D. - (1/2" to 3/4") O.D. Zinc Decorative Washers (black)
6 - #10 - 1½" Wood Screws
4 - 2" O.D. X 3/32" Thick - Adhesive Sponge Foot Pads (black)
1 - 1/4" X 20 - 8" Carriage Bolt
1 - 2" Four Arm Knob With 1/4" X 20 Tap (black)
1 - .257" I.D X .875" O.D. Nylon Washer (black)
Outside of the hardware, all the parts you will need will be made from the cutouts from the Poplar boards, such as the tensioner parts and the shuttles.
Some might not have the right size printer and we have found downloading from the internet leaves out some detail due to scanning losses. You can get a printed set of the Heritage Inkle Loom Plans. All 4 sheets and each sheet is 11" X 17"

These plans are a direct copy of the original ones. They were used to build all the jigs and fixtures for the Heritage Inkle Loom. All hand drawn and they include all the original smudges, tape marks, and excessive erasings. You can't get better than the original shop originals.
